When one of Australia’s most iconic sporting venues prepared to host a major international sporting event, the operational demands extended well beyond game day.
With more than 100,000 attendees expected on site and millions of viewers watching around the world, venue infrastructure needed to perform flawlessly under significantly increased demand. NPS partnered with the venue’s facilities team to deliver critical plumbing and hot water upgrades, support temporary infrastructure requirements and maintain business-as-usual maintenance activities in the lead up to the event.
Major events place considerable pressure on venue infrastructure, particularly essential services such as water supply, sanitary services and hot water systems.
Preparation works needed to be delivered within tight timeframes while ensuring the venue remained operational, and ready for other scheduled events.
In addition to planned upgrades, the team needed to remain agile and respond quickly to evolving operational requirements throughout the preparation period.
NPS delivered a range of infrastructure improvements designed to support increased demand and temporary operational requirements associated with the event.
These works included hot water system upgrades, installation of additional hot water storage capacity, temporary amenities infrastructure and multiple last-minute project requests delivered within compressed timeframes.
Throughout the preparation phase, the team continued to manage both preventative and reactive maintenance responsibilities, ensuring venue assets remained operational while supporting event readiness.
On event day, technicians were onsite from the early hours of the morning undertaking pre-event inspections and readiness checks. The team remained available throughout the event to respond to reactive maintenance requirements and ensure essential services continued to perform as expected.
Following the event, temporary infrastructure was safely removed and the venue was returned to its standard operational configuration, demonstrating the flexibility and responsiveness of the delivery model.
The successful delivery of the project showcased NPS’s ability to support complex, high-profile environments where reliability is critical.
By combining planned maintenance, infrastructure upgrades, reactive support and stakeholder coordination, the team helped ensure essential services remained operational throughout a major international event.
The project also highlighted the value of an integrated facilities maintenance partner capable of scaling resources, adapting to hanging requirements and delivering under pressure without compromising day-to-day service outcomes.
