However, isolating the network to complete this work risked widespread water outages affecting multiple large-scale customers. Traditional shutdown methods were not viable given the operational and commercial impacts.
Partnering with CTS, NPS deployed an Aquastop — a specialised, non-invasive isolation device that enables controlled intervention on live water mains. This technology allowed the team to carry out critical works without requiring a full system shutdown. An Aquastop is a pressurised pipeline isolation device that creates a temporary internal seal, allowing for maintenance or connection works without interrupting water flow. It’s ideal in high-stakes environments where system downtime is not an option.
Using this advanced technology, NPS successfully installed the 100mm divide valve and completed two tappings and pluggings into the existing main, all with no service disruption.
